Sorry to ask questions as if I haven't done my research, but, after a bit of Googling around, I haven't been able to figure this one out.
A few years ago, when I spent the summer in Kyoto, I came across a sign for the Higashi-sanjô-dono. ...
I haven't been able to figure out if this is the same as the Sanjô Palace that was besieged during the Heiji Rebellion. Everything I find about the "Sanjo Palace" makes no mention of whether or not it's the same as the Higashi Sanjo Palace, and everything I find about the "Higashi Sanjo Palace" makes no mention of the Heiji Rebellion.
So... my best guess is that they're not the same place. But, even so, I find it strange that I can't seem to find anything that explicitly says what the difference is, or how the two places are related. Japanese Wikipedia has a lengthy article on the Higashi Sanjo Palace, which makes no mention of Heiji, and it has a lengthy article on the Heiji Rebellion, which strangely has no wikilinks (not even redlinks) for the Sanjo Palace, and no mentions of the Higashi Sanjo Palace.
Thoughts?
Thanks. _________________ My blog on Japanese art & history: http://chaari.wordpress.com
