These memorial portraits (shini-e 死絵) were really popular. And yet, i don't know that we hear or see that much about them in scholarship (in English). _________________ My blog on Japanese art & history: http://chaari.wordpress.com

Maybe not in profit, but certainly in funding. Put a gender studies slant on it and you'll be rolling in grants. _________________
