Another great one has passed from this world. Someone sent me an obit in graphic form which I've put here. For those of you who like to read your obituaries in a newspaper, here's one from Japan Times. And here's a filmography for those who can read Japanese.
To gain a true appreciation of this great actor, I urge everyone to see Ogata's standout performance in Kenji Misumi's The Last Samurai (1974). _________________ Keep yourself to yourself, and so preserve your dignity.

Damn.
I always wanted to see him in a role as Yamazaki Tsutomu's brother. Sigh.
Ogata was great.

I have to say that Ogata Ken really leapt out of the screen in his role in "The Last Samurai." Truly unforgettable; it is sad to see he has gone already...but we shall all join him one day! Kanpai! |

I somehow missed the news that he had died until this morning. It is weird, because he is in a new commercial for an Epson home printer that was released last week or so, and I was really shocked at how old and frail he looked. I'll miss him. He was truly an "explosive" actor, as proven in films like the The Last Samurai '74 version). I thought he was also excellent in last year's NHK Taiga, Furin Kazan.
Sad, sad sad. _________________

My memory of Ogata Ken was Kichiku and Fukushu suruwa wareniari, quite shocking movies. _________________

Thanks, Chris.
That clip from Gackt... damn. I may have to revise my opinion of the man. Gackt has just gone up a bit in my eyes.
Well, I'm feeling good and depressed now. Sigh.
