| We just saw Samurai Spy (1965) which had a good mix of intrigue, murder, and ninja action. It was about the time leading up to the Osaka Campaign. |

I wondered what "Samurai spy" was.
It's "Ibun Sarutobi Sasuke"! _________________

For better or worse, many jidai-geki films get an English title. Some are good, some bad. Samurai Spy is OK, but a little misleading, as Sarutobi Sasuke was a (fictitious) ninja.

| did you catch it on IFC as well? I love their saturday morning Japanese films. Sometimes they will show more than one. I believe bad sleep well was on after it, which I had to record. The one thing IFC does I really ndo not appreciate is they put DRM on their broadcasts, so when I record it on my PC it will not let me burn it to a disc to then watch on my TV. I cannot even play it in another media player on my PC other than win media center. |

| Yes, IFC has been one of our staples. We just caught the martial arts documentary, Budo. |

That's where I discovered Zatoichi and my samurai film obsession went into overdrive.
BTW, better start collecting those HVE DVDs of the Zatoichi film series before they go out of print. Image bought HVE awhile back, and judging from their past behavior, it's unlikely they'll keep producing those disks. _________________ Keep yourself to yourself, and so preserve your dignity.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that all of the Zatoichi movies have had their licenses run out, except the last film w/ Katsu, TV series and the Kitano film. I'm not sure exactly where I read it at though so don't put too much faith in that comment. On a proud note, my quest to own all 26 Zatoichi movies (27 if you count Kitano's) has come to fruition and some 80+ TV episodes. I have a lot of Zato watching ahead of me. |
