Nagaeyari and I will be going over the technical requirements over the next week or so, but to give you an idea what I mean by "technical requirements", please see this link:
http://monumenta.cc.sophia.ac.jp/MN_Style.pdf
Most likely, I will use this as a foundation, and just list the differences (by having a link to the MN style sheet, and followed by the different requirements).
Nagaeyari and I will also be making decisions on the staffing requirements, including what types of positions will be available, so stay tuned to see if a (volunteer) job you may be interested in shows up. You can still put it on your resume, I'll be your reference
Feel free to ask any "journal" related questions here. |

Definately.
Preliminary, this is what I am thinking for "jobs" I'll need volunteers for (titles subject to change)
1. Editors - to handle grammar, punctuation, adherence to the stylesheet.
2. Logic Checkers - to evaluate the veracity of claims, and the logic of the ideas, etc. (this could also be the editors)
3. Fact Checkers - people to check sources to make sure that reliable sources are used, to make sure that the info is correct, to catch (unintentional) plagarism, etc. This would probably be a lot of work, so I'd seperate this out from the editors unless they also wanted to tackle it.
Something like that. I still have to figure it out. |

Excellent.
I've been following this with some interest, but was waiting for you to ask before getting nudgy and volunteering (didn't want to seem to "keen", if you know what I mean).

Well, considering the number of entries so far, I think it would be premature for me to set a date, but by November would be great. _________________ Shop Amazon.com, support the Samurai Archives: http://amzn.to/wnDX2j

Is this a date for submissions for the first year (2008) or for the first issue of the year? How many times a year do you accept submissions? |

In the most technical sense, we are accepting submissions until we have enough articles to publish all 2-4 issues of the 2008 run. Because this all started over the summer, there have been very few submissions so far (since no one is in school), and I've been pretty busy and haven't marketed it enough yet. Not to mention, the editors haven't figured out an efficient and effective way to dole out tasks yet. It is still sort of ad hoc. _________________ Shop Amazon.com, support the Samurai Archives: http://amzn.to/wnDX2j

FYI
Some good news for those interested - I am giving top priority for the first issue to go to articles by forum members - so, if you are interested in an article, PM me your idea so I can build a tentative list of possible entries for the first issue. Since I will be using my friend's publishing company to publish, I won't have to wait until we have enough articles for a year's worth of issues, I can publish the first issue as soon as I'm ready. _________________ Shop Amazon.com, support the Samurai Archives: http://amzn.to/wnDX2j

For some reason, even though I'm logged in, I can't find the "send personal message" place. So I'll inform you right here: I intend to write my article about ronin. _________________ "Walk the thousand mile road, step by step" -- Miyamoto Musashi |

Sounds interesting! Also, by the way, you can get to the "send PM" link by clicking the link at the top of this page that says "you have no new messages" (not sure why they do it that way). _________________ Shop Amazon.com, support the Samurai Archives: http://amzn.to/wnDX2j

I know that I am new here but this sounds like something of great interest to me.
I will be submitting shortly. I have a paper that I would like to include although it was already published at TransPacific Radio in January 2007.
Can I still submit that work even though it was published once already? I still own the copyright and it is my original work so I hope its not an issue. |

We've got a few entries, and beyond that, things haven't progressed. I have to get together with the editors to go over the manuscripts. Frankly it is a matter of getting a big enough page count for 3-4 issues, and having editors who are willing to read and critique them. I'll continue this with the editors, but essentially I haven't pushed to move it forward since I've been pretty overwhelmed lately, but every now and then a manuscript comes in. _________________ Shop Amazon.com, support the Samurai Archives: http://amzn.to/wnDX2j

OK. Didn't mean to be pushy or anything. Just curious...
Thanks.
I'm currently working on reading the letters exchanged between Ieyasu and the Nguyen court, so I'll see if I can't write something about that. Unfortunately, I've only just started the project, so I won't have anything solid on that until May, maybe June. :-/ _________________ My blog on Japanese art & history: http://chaari.wordpress.com
