Unfortunately like much of historic Japan, it has either been destroyed by nature or war, or eaten up by modernity (i.e., concrete and flashing lights) |

Yeah, the ice skating rink on the top of Mt. Hiei and the kiddie type theme park at Momoyama castle pretty much killed it for me. |

I remember my first shock like this. I had taken a local train and the Kanjo-sen around Osaka for a quiet morning of site-seeing at Osaka castle. Had a really good time and was enjoying myself alot - until I came across the elevators....

Recently a Korean Pachinko billionair took over a Shinto Shrine in Kyoto and destroying it.

This is the biggest issue in Japanese internet community right now. |

I heard about that. It became a big problem over at 2 Channel.
They're really trying to destroy as much of the Japanese culture as they can. Koreans.... |

shikisoku,
I am surprised that was even possible. Though there was something similar that happened here in the U.S., in North Carolina specifically. There was a Catholic Church that moved its congregation so the building was sold. A group bought it and turned it into a bar, converting the confessionals into toilets. There was plenty of protest of course.

If I live in foreign country, I respect the local culture.
If I don't respect their culture, they won't respect my culture. |

Aye, There's the rub. Modern society breeds persons of no culture for the most part. This leads to the adoption of the least desirable cultural aspects in the search for identity. John _________________ 知恵は時間及びエネルギーである |

As usual and through all the time. High culture was always somehow "elites only" and in our society- as in all societies through ages- elite is a minority, most probably under 1% of total population. |
