Anyone read "Jesus and the Samurai: The Shining Religion and the Samurai"?

Little things like having 'samurai' in the title twice, 'shining religion', and blurbs like 'Christianity threatened to supplant Buddhism as the dominant religion'/'Japanese Christians numbered in the millions' leads me to believe someone's been reading a little too much Shogun...or works for the History Channel.

I like Amazon's additional suggested reading, "Shogun Iemitsu: War and Romance in 17th Century Tokugawa Japan".

Wonder if the book mentions the supposed tomb of Jesus in Tohoku.

On amazon, while taking a "Look Inside" the first page of Jesus and the Samurai, the author, Michael Zomber, is introduced "as a student of Japanese history and an acknowledged expert in the field of Japanese arms and armor, as well as other aspects of Edo Japan." He relates, "I became fascinated by the infusion of Christian symbols appearing on suits of samurai armor, tanegashima, and other accoutrements of the samurai, which persisted long after the Tokugawa edicts."

Michael Zomber...hmm, I seemed to have remembered that name from work. And sure enough, this guy was convicted of multimillion dollar wire and mail fraud pertaining to the sale of 'collectible firearms'. Seems he wrote the Jesus book while in prison along with the "Shogun Iemitsu: War and Romance in 17th Century Tokugawa Japan" book Tornadoes mentioned, which he also wrote. And of course he followed the longstanding convict tradition of filing a bunch of nuisance lawsuits while on the inside.

Seems like the only place he's acknowledged as a 'world-renowned antique arms and armors expert' is on his own website, and blurbs there like "Zomber left his family and two young children to spend two years in a U.S. prison camp" paint him as somewhat of a nutcase in addition to being a con man.

That is certainly shocking! I pity him, too. Even if there was no unsavory background, his publication gives me pause about the future of books, when it seems anything can be published and put on amazon and kindle now, no matter how much is lacking in the quality of writing and research!
