I'd like to hear about recent archeological findings as to the possible locations of Himiko's Yamatai kingdom. Some discussion about Japan's involvement in the fighting between China, Gogoryeo, Silla, and Baekje on the Korean peninsula would be nice as well.

I'll second these. What was Yamato's relationship to Mimana (Gaya)? And more generally to the other Korean kingdoms at that time?

Was there any real difference, genetic or otherwise, between the people on the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, and the people on Kyushu and Western Honshu around, say the 1-4th century or so?

Where's Yamatai?

What evidence exists for an "invasion", if any, around the 4th century from the mainland?

Who were the Jomon people, and what happened to them?

How did the Wa people view the Chinese mirrors? As a sacred object, magical object, or simply as a symbol like how we would view a badge or crown?

What are the broader implications? IE, how can you tie whatever from the Jomon/Yayoi/Yamatai/etc to what came later? Even if you don't focus on it, make sure you mention that such and such institution, etc. was the basis for (whatever came later). I didn't start caring about it until I read the Bizen book and saw clearly how it related to later periods.

I'd be interested in Silk Road artifacts that ended up in Japan, and how they got there.

How did the hou/PAO gain such status in Korea and China, and thus Japan? This is essentially "foreign" clothing to the Chinese--it is found on people from the Western regions and probably has Sogdian/Persian roots, and yet it became the pre-eminent clothing of the nobility as the hoeki-no-hou and its brethren (e.g. the ketteki-no-hou).

What are the traces of Kuchean music in Japanese court music traditions? Music of Kuqa, which appears to have been one of the Indo-European Tocharian-speaking oasis states along the Taklamakan desert (Kuche/Qiuci), was popular in Chang'an and its influences can still be seen in some Japanese traditions.

A discussion of the early circuits. Who could use them, and how they were viewed in light of court ritual. How much were they an instrument of the state to impress visitors traveling to the capital?

I'll stop there, for now. Just some thoughts.
