Seriously? Katori Shingo?
This might as well be the last, because it's obviously hit rock bottom. Granted he's better than Inagaki or Nakai, but the utter coolness that is Sorimachi will be completely canceled out by Mr. MonkeyMagic. _________________

This was my reaction as well. While I enjoy Bistro SMAP, I don't find Katori Shingo to be a worthy replacement to Katsu Shintaro or Beat Takeshi. But who knows, Shingo may surprise us all.
No doubt I'll plunk down my 1,200 yen to see it. |

Well anyone can beat Kitano's version which was nothing short of horrible and im saying this as a Kitano Fan .
As for this ,well we shall have to see ,for the life of me i cant think why they just did not give the role to Matsudaira Ken who trained under Katsu . _________________ "One mans washing machine is another mans music " |

Yeah that was a good Zatoichi. But its a bit unfair to compare. The entire movie, the most prevalent thought in my mind is "Beautiful girl... blind... lots of bad guys... Yeah, this isn't going to end well".
So she somehow feels more fragile and when she whips out those ridiculous skills of hers its more of a shock.
Katsu was more the "bad-ass" Zatoichi. The "mess with me and you all die and anyone in the vicinity is gonna die too. And while I'm at it, I'm going to make a point of destroying as much furnature as I can here" type.
and Takeshi's I think is certainly the most calm and thoughtful and deceptive Zatoichi.
So where will Katori Shingo's take on the character fit in is anyone guess at this point. But I look forward to seeing it. |

Amazing Film !.
I am shocked!!! Shingo pulled this one off and does a really great job of playing Ichi .
The story is pretty much classic Ichi tale ,after his wife is killed by Yakuza he moves to a coastal town and decides to give up the sword to become a farmer .
The Amazing Nakadai as "Boss Tendo "has other ideas ,when he decides to inherit the town our hero is forced to pick up the sword one more time .
This is the Ichi film we have been waiting for ,Its as good as many of the classics and the female version of a couple of years past .
If this is really the end of the 49 year old franchise its a great way to bow out ,Sadly though i hear Kitano is planning another Ichi film as he scrambles to find a project to inject some cash . _________________ "One mans washing machine is another mans music " |
