I just bought Miyashita Hideki's Sengoku Gaiden Okehazama Senki Vol. 1. at my local Book-Off branch here in San Diego. Not bad and interesting. Is Vol. 2 out yet? And if it is how is it. I would like to get my hands on it.

Volume 2 isn't out yet, and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it. "Sengoku Tenshou-ki" is Miyashita's main project currently, the one that's being printed in Weekly Young Magazine, while "Okehazama Senki" is printed in Bessatsu Young Magazine, which is only printed bimonthly. It'll take some time before enough episodes have been printed to fill a second collected tankoubon volume.
I own the first volume, but I'm holding off on reading it until I finish working my way through the regular (pre-"Tenshou-ki") "Sengoku" series. _________________ Meditate upon exile, torture, wars, diseases, shipwreck, so that you may not be a novice to any misfortune.

Thanks for the heads up Ashigaru! I just bought Uesugi Kenshin by Kenji Okamura today. I wonder if the Sengoku Busho Retsuden series have any on Nobunaga?

Sengoku Tenshou-ki is a really interesting work, it's historical source seems very thorough, maybe even more so than a lot of actual history works. (I'm looking at you Mr. Turnbull).
It manage to be at least generally historically accurate, enteraining, funny at times and insightful at the same time, really nice work.
some of the charactor depictions are amusing though, the Uesugi clan are all Russian looking guys (Kenshin = Putin lol) and Saika Magoichi basically based on Che Guevera heh. |

From Tetsuo Hara (Fist of the North Star):
Hana no Keiji - Kumo no Kanata ni/"Flowery Keiji: At the Other Side of the Cloud" (18 volumes, ran from 1990-1993): Manga about Maeda Keiji. It is an adaptation of the novel Ichi-Mu-An Furyuki by Ryu Keiichiro.
Kagemusha Tokugawa Ieyasu/"Shadow Warrior Ieyasu Tokugawa" (6 volumes, from 1994-1995): Much like Kurosawa's Kagemusha, but with Ieyasu instead of Shingen.
Sakon - Sengoku Fuunroku/"Sakon: Chronicles of Feudal Turbulence" (6 volumes, from 1997-2000): Manga centering around Sakon Shima.
Gifu Dodo!! Naoe Kanetsugu (Tetsuo's latest , I think still ongoing): A spin-off of the Keiji manga. |
