Here's a review of Kitano Takeshi's 2000 Yakuza film "Brother" http://www.yakuzafilm.com/2015/03/brother-2000.html Kitano's attempt at breaking into Western cinema failed, and there are some issues with weak acting and jarring editing, but overall it's not too bad, and probably a good introductory movie for English speakers to Japanese Yakuza films. Definitely one of my first Kitano films, and I guess I would say still one of my favorites. |

There are some legitimate critiques of the movie, but for what it was, it wasn't bad. I recently watched it with a friend of mine who had never seen a Japanese "Yakuza" film before (and doesn't speak a word of Japanese), and he loved it. |

It was one of my first Kitano films after Battle Royale. While it had some technical issues, and was kind of hammy, it was still better than the majority of the American Gangster films to come out at that time. That being said Mean Guns is also a guilty pleasure of mine. |
