Kodansha Encyclopedia of Japan- signed entries

Hello everyone!
This is going to be my first post in this forum, so apologies if this is not the right category to post this.

For some time, I've been thinking about this, and if there's a place on the internet where this suggestion could pick someone's interest, it's probably this forum.

It's about the Kodansha Encyclopedia of Japan. I have access to the version in the japanknowledge database and to an ebook of the 2-volumes updated version . From what I understand, they should be the same thing (somebody correct me if I'm wrong. few entries I tried to compare seemed the same). One thing I really miss about both of them, though, are the signed entries. According to wikipedia, "many (of the entries) are signed.", but the signatures seem to be gone in the 1993 version. Still, many english monographs cite the KEJ entries together with the specific author (Henshall in his 2012 book, for example.).

Has anyone of you seen the actual original 9 volumes beast? Because I've been thinking: what if someone created the list of entries-those that are signed, at least- together with their respective authors? Or, better yet, alphabetical list of the contributors together with the entries they contributed?

Is it ouf of the question because of copyright? Is that the reason I've never seen such a list? Or am I the only one who would find something like that interesting?

Listing books is not illegal, right? Then listing entries should not be, either.

What do you guys think?

If someone wanted to take the time to compile the list, then, that should be fine, so far as I'm aware. I don't think a list of titles + authors would be a copyright problem. Only if you include the actual content of the entries are you starting to run into potential copyright issues...

It's weird that they wouldn't include the authors in the electronic version already... how much harder would it have been for them to just list the author also?

I think the problem is that they already used the updated version which lacks the author's names. The list of contributors is there all right (in the 1994 2-volumes book, not in the database), but without the entries they contributed. Personally I think it's kind of a bummer, but this time it probably IS because of the copyright. After all, they would have to consult each author after every change, otherwise they wouldn't be able to state the person as "the author", right? I can imagine that's kind of a hassle, given the sheer number of people involved. So they probably gave up on the names completely. At least that's what I think.

Anyway, I'll try listing what I can find from various bibliographies without having the original 9 volume set. I'll post it here first and then we'll see if it's worth putting somewhere else in the forums or if anyone else could help.

So here's the best I can do, and I tried to focus on topics related to Japanese history, too
