Regular Forum The Edo Period
This is a forum for the study of the culture and history of the Edo period. Also called the Tokugawa period, it is a division of Japanese history running from the early 17th century to 1867. The period marks the governance of the Tokugawa Shogunate, which was officially established by Tokugawa Ieyasu. The period ended with the Meiji restoration, the restoration of imperial rule by the 15th and last Shogun, Tokugawa Yoshinobu.

The latest part of the Tokugawa era, the Bakumatsu period is on of the most dynamic and romanticized era of Japanese history. It is the age of the last Samurai, of intense fighting between pro-emperor Ishin Shishi from Satsuma and Choshu, and the pro-Shogunate Shinsengumi troops. The forum also includes the Meiji period, where Japan quickly modernized and entered the modern age.
